More about Milwaukee County
In downtown Milwaukee and throughout the county, there are outstanding museums, shops, theaters, and more. The Milwaukee Art Museum, designed by world-famous architect Santiago Calatrava, sits on the lakefront and is a must-see attraction. But don’t skip the Harley-Davidson museum!
Another intriguing place to visit is the Mitchell Park Conservatory, most commonly known as “The Domes”. Here you can experience floral gardens, a tropical jungle, and a desert oasis all in one day as you wander through each dome filled with uniquely diverse plant life. And in Hales Corners, just south of downtown Milwaukee, is the spectacular Boerner Botanical Gardens. It fills the eyes and nose with the colors and fragrances of nearly every variety of flower and plant.
For the sports enthusiast, tickets can be purchased for several professional teams such as the Milwaukee Bucks (basketball), the Admirals (hockey), indoor soccer team The Wave, and the Brewers (baseball).
Known for its excellent restaurants, there’s no shortage of dining options in Milwaukee County. From Whitefish Bay to the north, Wauwatosa to the west, and Oak Creek to the south, there’s an abundance of locally owned eateries, cafes, and popular chains, all with menu selections for everyone’s budget and palette. Family owned Italian dining establishments and German beer gardens are some of the most popular choices for get-togethers with friends.
And last but not least, be sure to spend time at Lake Michigan, known merely as “the lakefront”. No matter the time of year, the crashing waves are breathtaking, and there’s always something going on: people flying kites, playing soccer, braving the chilly water temperatures, or just enjoying a walk. Further south is Henry Maier Festival Park and from spring to fall, there’s a festival of some sort nearly every week.
